Continuing Education Requirements
Some states require their licensees to take specific CE courses at specific times. These are the GGS at-home text and streaming video courses that satisfy those requirements.

California

LMFTs, LCSWs, LEPs and LPCCs: 36 hours every 2 years, 18 hours for the first renewal period.
All of Gerry Grossman Seminars CE courses are approved.
Gerry Grossman Seminars is BBS CE Provider #PCE1292.

Interactive and Self Study. California therapists and social workers may earn 100% of their CE hours through self-study as well as electronic interactive courses. The California BBS says that, effective July 1, 2015, licensees may gain ALL of their required CE units through self-study (previously limited to one-half of the total hours), if the self-study course is offered by an acceptable CE provider such as Gerry Grossman Seminars. "Electronic" courses could already count for 100% before that time. All of our at-home courses are considered electronic when you submit the post-test through our website, while they are considered Self-Study if you send your post-test through the mail.

The California Board of Behavioral Sciences requires their therapists and counselors to take certain CE courses at specific times. The following grids list required subjects along with Gerry Grossman Seminars CE courses that can be applied to each one:

California MFTs

HIV/AIDS, 7 hours
All licensees are required to complete a course at least seven hours in length that covers the characteristics and method of assessment and treatment of people who live with HIV/AIDS.

Law and Ethics, 6 hours
All licensees are required to complete at least six hours of CE in the area of Law and Ethics as a condition of each renewal. The six hours shall be considered part of the 36 hour CE requirement.

Supervision Training, 6 hours
LCSWs and LMFTs supervising associate MFTs must complete a minimum of six hours of supervision training within the two-year period immediately preceding the commencement of supervision and every renewal period while supervising.

California LCSWs

HIV/AIDS, 7 hours
All licensees are required to complete a course at least seven hours in length that covers the characteristics and method of assessment and treatment of people who live with HIV/AIDS.

Law and Ethics, 6 hours

Supervision Training, 15 hours
LCSWs and MFTs supervising ASWs must complete a minimum of 15 contact hours in supervision training (usually in a single course) prior to commencement of supervision. Once completed, the licensee does not need to complete it again before supervising future ASWs.

California LPCCs

HIV/AIDS, 7 hours
One-time requirement. All licensees will be required to complete a course of at least seven (7) hours in length and cover the characteristics and method of assessment and treatment of people who live with HIV/AIDS.

Law and Ethics, 6 hours
All licensees are required to complete at least six (6) hours of CE in the area of Law and Ethics as a condition of each renewal. The six hours shall be considered part of the 36 hour CE requirement (CCR section 1887.3).

Supervision Training, 6 hours
MFTs, LCSWs, LEPs and LPCCs supervising LPCC associates must complete a minimum of six hours of supervision training within sixty days of commencement of supervision and every renewal period thereafter while supervising.

California LEPs

Alcoholism and Other Chemical Substance Dependency, 15 hours
LEP licensees are required to complete a course at least seven hours in length on Alcoholism and Other Chemical Substance Dependency. This is a one-time requirement.

Child Abuse Assessment & Reporting, 7 hours
LEP licensees are required to complete a course at least seven hours in length on Child Abuse. This is a one-time requirement.

Law and Ethics, 6 hours
All licensees are required to complete at least six hours of CE in the area of Law and Ethics as a condition of each renewal. The six hours shall be considered part of the 36 hour CE requirement.

Registered Nurses: 30 contact hours every 2 years
Gerry Grossman Seminars is an approved provider for California RNs. Some of our courses are specifically developed for LMFTs and LCSWs, so please check individual course content for applicability to nursing.
Gerry Grossman Seminars is a CE provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #CEP14499.

Home Study. The California BRN website states that there is "no limit to the number of contact hours that can be completed through independent or home study courses."


Texas

MFTs and Social Workers: 30 hours every 2 years
All of Gerry Grossman Seminars CE courses are approved.
Texas State MFT Board of Examiners accepts our NBCC certification for all courses.
Gerry Grossman Seminars is Texas Social Worker CE provider #CS4486 .

Home Study. Texas MFTs may use distance learning courses such as ours for up to 6 hours each year. LMSWs, LCSWs and LBSWs can earn up to 10 hours per renewal period through independent study.


Washington State

Licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed mental health counselors, and licensed social workers: 36 hours every 2 years
Washington State does not have an approval process for Continuing Education providers - the practitioner is responsible for deciding which courses meet their state requirements. As an approved CE provider in California and other states, Gerry Grossman Seminars courses may be approved for Washington State licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed mental health counselors, and licensed social workers.

Washington law WAC 246-809-610 states: "The continuing education (CE) program or course must be relevant to licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed mental health counselors and licensed social workers and must contribute to the advancement, extension and enhancement of the professional competence of the licensed marriage and family therapist, licensed mental health counselor and/or licensed social worker. Courses or workshops primarily designed to increase practice income or office efficiency are not eligible for CE credit." Please check the Washington DOH website for more particulars.

Home Study. Washington counselors may use distance learning courses such as ours for up to 26 hours each reporting period.
